Fantasy Premier League 2017-18: Players to pick for Gameweek 5

Ent
Fans will enthusiastically gear up for yet another week of Fantasy Premier League

Gameweek 4 was an absolute disaster for Liverpool as they got thumped 5-0 by Guardiola's Manchester City. On the other side of Merseyside, Everton also lost to Tottenham Hotspur as Harry Kane once again showed why he is the most lethal forward in the league.

Arsenal had a change of fortune as they convincingly beat Bournemouth, thanks to a brace by Danny Welbeck. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho and his Manchester United side dropped points against Stoke City as the match ended 2-2.

The weekend also saw the first sacking of the English Premier League, after Crystal Palace decided to part ways with former-manager Frank de Boer after 4 woeful performances by Crystal Palace, where they failed to score a single goal and lost all the matches.

As we approach the next gameweek - which will feature the highly anticipated clash between London giants Arsenal and Chelsea, it is time to get back to the drawing board and chalk out the changes that can be made to our team for this gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League.

Here are the 11 players we've picked for the Fantasy Premier League this week:

Forwards

Everton v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
August is over and Harry Kane is back

11. Harry Kane: Long Term

The Englishman had a stellar game against Everton as he scored twice to lead his team to a 3-0 victory over the Toffees. Kane had disappointed a lot of Fantasy Premier League managers during the month of August, but has repaid it dutifully to those who continued to keep faith in the forward.

Kane's price may bother a lot of managers but we believe that in the long term there is no better option than him.The imminent game against Swansea City makes Kane a solid shout for captaincy. The Swans have been impressive this season but there is little chance they will be able to hold out away from home against an ace attack from the Lilywhites.

10. Jamie Vardy: Long Term

Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy has started the season in great form and we expect him to continue. Backed by an in-form Leicester midfield, the forward will surely get the service he desires. The player is also in charge of penalties for the Foxes, giving him an edge over several other options in the same price range.

With 3 goals in his last 4 matches, Vardy seems to be an obvious choice, especially with the kind of fixtures Leicester City have in the near future. The Foxes travel away to Huddersfield who were off to a great start but were finally defeated by West Ham.

9. Romelu Lukaku: Long Term

Stoke City v Manchester United - Premier League
Lukaku is a complete beast at Home

With a pick percentage as high as 57%, not picking Romelu Lukaku in the Fantasy Premier League could heavily backfire. The Belgian is in pristine form and scored yet again, on his Champions League debut for United. The player has benefited with a creative midfield at United but Paul Pogba's injury might cause the Red Devils some worry.

With another home game for United against Everton, it will be interesting to see whether Lukaku is able to maintain his fine home form and deliver against his old team.

Midfielders

The Belgian will be ready for Arsenal this weekend

8. Eden Hazard: Differential + Long Term

With a pick percentage of roughly 2.5%, not many people have banked on the Belgium who will be starting his first game this week against London rivals Arsenal. Hazard with his quick feet and silky dribbling ability has always been a difficult player to mark. The Belgian has performed wonderfully when the occasion calls for it and the Blues will be banking on the duo of Hazard and Morata.

Chelsea play Arsenal at Stamford Bridge and go into the match with their confidence high, after a dominating win in the Champions League. Wenger and his men have historically struggled to defeat Chelsea away from home and the chances of coming away with a win look unlikely.

7. Mohamed Salah: Long Term

Salah has also been in exquisite form since the start of the season. The Egyptian has been able to torment Premier League defences with his burst of speed. Despite not being very clinical when it comes to finishing, he has scored twice over the last 4 games. Salah has also been an able creator with 2 assists in the same duration.

With a home game against Burnley, Liverpool will fire on all cylinders to give their supporters a match worth watching. The Reds will definitely miss Sadio Mane but should have an easy time, on the whole, getting all 3 points away from the Clarets.

6. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: Differential + Long Term

Stoke City v Manchester United - Premier League
Choupo-Moting could be a good punt

The former Schalke man has had a great start at his new club and had an impact on the game both against Arsenal and Manchester United. Stoke this season seem a more attacking team than ever before and Moting comes to the next game, in form, after a brace against Manchester United.

Stoke travel away to Newcastle United, who seem to be getting better after quite a dismal start to the season. The Potters have a positive fixture difficulty rating(FDR) and have just 3 fixtures with a rating of more than 2 in their next 10 games.

5. Aaron Mooy - Short Term

A heavy strike force will force a compromise in midfield, and midfielder Aaron Mooy is an appropriate selection for the last spot in the midfield. The Australian has been a key figure for Huddersfield Town and is another promising budget option. Mooy has scored once and assisted as many in the 4 games that he has played.

Huddersfield host Leicester City, who have conceded 8 goals in 4 games. The Foxes have not been stable defensively and Mooy could benefit from this.

Defenders

Everton v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Ben Davies has ensured that the faithful Tottenham fans do not miss injured left back Danny Rose

4. Ben Davies: Long Term

A no brainer for this week, Tottenham Hotspur left back Ben Davies has been in top form for the Lilywhites. The player is not only a budget option to get from the Spurs backline, which has been a resolute force till now but has also provided great attacking returns.

The player also has the tendency to cross well and deliver sweet corners which are helpful when you've a man like Harry Kane leading the line.

With an average of 8 points per game, Davies is your best bet for the coming gameweek. Tottenham have a run of favourable fixtures and a game against Swansea this week should see them come out unscathed.

3. Ryan Bertrand: Long Term

Bertrand has the ability to rush forward and deliver those lethal balls that could end up at the back of the net. The Englishman's point potential has taken a beating due to the fact that Saints have not been very impressive in front of the goal but the clean sheet potential continues to be there.

The Southampton fullback is a great option to have in your backline primarily because the club has great fixtures coming their way. A game against a struggling Crystal Palace seems to be the right choice considering the fact that the Londoners have not scored a single goal till now.

2. Trent Alexander-Arnold: Differential

Watford v Liverpool - Premier League
The teenager is extremely good on set pieces

The youngster who is now starting instead of Clyne due to the latter's injury is a great budget option. Liverpool have historically not been the most stable team defensively, but, faith in the player is advised, due to the teenager's ability to generate attacking returns.

The player has shown strong set piece skills and scored a lovely free kick against Hoffenheim in the Champions League qualifiers.

Liverpool play Burnley at Anfield and there is no doubt that after a brutal humiliation at the hands of Manchester City, Klopp and his men will not leave much room for the Burnley attackers who have shown strong potential this season.

Goalkeeper

1. David De Gea: Long Term

Stoke City v Manchester United - Premier League
De Gea is an all-weather Fantasy Premier League goalkeeper

Continue to keep faith in the Spaniard, who certainly seems to be a choice that doesn't often go wrong. United have kept 3 clean sheets out of the 4 matches that they've played and have kept a clean sheet in both of their home games.

At £5.5, David De Gea is certainly not the cheapest option in the game but promises to be someone you can bank on over a long period of time. Everton struggled to score against Tottenham's tight defence last week and will again have a tough task on their hands as they travel to Old Trafford to face the Red Devils.
