Fantasy Premier League: 3 Players to drop and pick for Gameweek 14 | FPL Tips 2019

Fantasy Premier League wizard

The Jose Mourinho bounce appears to be in full effect as Tottenham Hotspur were the only English team to win in the Champions League this week. Spurs have now scored seven goals in their last two matches and offer nailed on options such as Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son who are likely to play every minute of every game. Jumping on either of these players seems wise ahead of a busy week which sees teams playing three league games in seven days.

It is a good time to strengthen your bench with fixtures coming thick and fast. Tammy Abraham picked up an injury in Chelsea’s game against Valencia and the length of his absence is not known yet. The problem is at this time of the year, even one week out would mean missing three gameweeks so managers need to keep a close eye on Frank Lampard’s press conference on Friday.

3 Players to pick

Jamie Vardy (EVE)

West Bromwich Albion v Leicester City - Premier League
West Bromwich Albion v Leicester City - Premier League

Jamie Vardy is in the form of his life under Rodgers and a visit of a struggling Everton side to the King Power Stadium offers another opportunity to captain the Foxes’ striker. No player has scored more FPL points than his 104 or scored more goals than his 12. He also leads the league for shots on target (SoT) (20) and has four assists as well.

Only Abraham (16) has been afforded more ‘big chances’ than his 15. Only Manchester City (37) have scored more goals than Leicester’s 31 this season and they are fifth for SoT with 67. Everton have conceded 20 goals this season, only West Ham (23), Watford (26), Norwich (28) and Southampton (31) have conceded more. They have kept just three clean sheets and allowed opponents 112 shots.

Mohamed Salah (BRI)

Liverpool v West Ham United - Premier League
Liverpool v West Ham United - Premier League

Mohamed Salah was included in Liverpool’s squad for their visit to Crystal Palace but was an unused substitute as the Reds ran out 2-1 winners. He played 90 minutes against Napoli midweek, so he looks to be over the ankle problem. Despite missing two of their last five matches, he is second for goals (two) only to Sadio Mane in the Liverpool squad over that period and still beats the Senegalese for xG (expected goals) 1.9 to 1.8.

He also leads the way for SoT with eight, three ahead of Mane. Only De Bruyne (56) has notched more FPL points than Salah’s 53 in home matches. Liverpool have scored 17 goals in their six home matchesthis season, only Manchester City (21) have scored more. They are top for SoT in home matches with 47.

Brighton have conceded 11 goals in their six away matches this season, keeping just two clean sheets. Only Aston Villa have a higher xGC (expected goals conceded) (13.87) than Brighton’s 13.84 on the road this season.

Harry Kane (BOU)

Tottenham Hotspur v Olympiacos FC: Group B - UEFA Champions League
Tottenham Hotspur v Olympiacos FC: Group B - UEFA Champions League

Harry Kane continued his positive start to life under Mourinho with two goals in the Champions League to add to his goal against West Ham in gameweek 13 and at under 20% ownership, the Englishman is an explosive differential captain option this week and a great replacement for Abraham.

He remains Spurs’ leading scorer with seven goals this season, he trails only Son for shots (34 to 32) and SoT (14 to 12). However, he has been afforded seven ‘big chances’ compared to the Korean’s four and beats him for xG 4.52 to 2.74. Only Chelsea (28), Liverpool (30), Leicester (31) and Manchester City (37) have scored more goals than Spurs’ 21 this season and they are ninth for shots with 164.

Bournemouth have conceded 17 goals this season, keeping just three clean sheets. Only Arsenal (219), Norwich (227) and Villa (240) have conceded more shots than Bournemouth’s 199.

3 Players to drop

Sergio Aguero (NEW)

Manchester City v Chelsea FC - Premier League
Manchester City v Chelsea FC - Premier League

Sergio Aguero picked up an injury in Manchester City’s game against Chelsea and Pep has gone on record to state that he is out of the Manchester Derby which means he misses the next three gameweeks as a minimum.

The Cityzens are not blowing teams away anymore, they struggled against Shakhtar midweek and while I usually would suggest an easy move to Jesus, there are probably better options out there now for the price such as Jimenez. The upcoming fixtures come thick and fast so price drops are very likely, get rid as soon as possible.

Richarlison de Andrade (LEI)

Everton FC v Watford FC - Premier League
Everton FC v Watford FC - Premier League

Richarlison blanked against Norwich in gameweek 13, the bottom placed team in the league at the time and Everton appear to be in a state of turmoil. Rumours are swirling about Marco Silva’s future and visiting the league’s best defensive team probably will not help matters. No team has kept more clean sheets (six) or conceded fewer goals (eight) than the Foxes and Everton have struggled for goals, scoring only 13, the fourth lowest in the league.

Everton play Leicester, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man. Utd and Arsenal in their next five games, an extremely difficult run of fixtures. There are other great options around his price point such as Pulisic and even Moura so sticking to the Brazilian for this run seems unwise.

John McGinn (MUN)

Aston Villa v Burnley FC - Premier League
Aston Villa v Burnley FC - Premier League

Aston Villa have changed their tactical setup from early in the season when they played a midfield three of Grealish, McGinn and Nakamba. Grealish has now been moved to a left-wing role and Hourihane has replaced him in midfield which means that McGinn has much less license to break forward compared to earlier in the season.

Their fixtures for the next four are quite difficult as well, the Birmingham side play Man. Utd, Chelsea, Leicester and Sheffield United in their next four games and though Villa might score in those games, McGinn’s attacking potential is likely to be limited due to the defensive work he willhave to do.
