FC Porto vs Bayern Munich - Player Ratings

Jackson Martinez scoring the third goal for Porto

FC Porto produced a shock result in the quarter-final by beating the 2013 European champions, Bayern Munich, 3-1 at home. Porto's high-pressing paid off as they knicked the ball from Bayern players deep in the opposition half to score the opening two goals through Ricardo Quaresma.

Bayern pulled one back in the first half through Thiago Alcantara. But, Jackson Martinez's second half goal ensured that Porto will travel to Germany next week with a healthy lead. But, with both of Porto’s full-backs suspended for the return leg, the Portuguese club may have a huge task in their hands.

So let us look at how the player performed on the night:

FC Porto

Fabiano - 6/10

Except for picking the ball from the net once on the night, he hardly had much to do.

Danilo - 7/10

He looked solid on his side and did well to stop Bayern's attack in that direction. He was also a constant threat going forward. However his late booking meant he will miss the second leg.

Maicon - 7/10He was a rock at the back. Maicon looked solid in defence and did well to clear everything which was put at him.

Bruno Martins Indi - 7/10

He formed a good partnership with his teammate and looked solid at the back. He also got involved in his team’s passing move.

Alex Sandro - 7.5/10

He was impressive on the night. He held his ground well and went forward on every possible occasion to help his attackers. It was from his diagonal cross that Porto got their third goal. However, the booking he received in the first half means he will miss the return leg.

Hector Miguel Herrera - 6.5/10

He helped his defenders well by sitting in front of them and offering them great protection. He also went forward occasionally to help the attackers.

Casemiro - 5.5/10

He could have done better to stop Jerome Boateng from delivering the cross for Bayern's only goal on the night. He also missed a glorious free header at the end of the half. Otherwise he did a good job especially in defence.

Oliver Torres - 6/10

He pressurised the Bayern players well to prevent them from settling down. He linked well with his attackers, although without any proper end product. Also, he defended well for his team.

Ricardo Quaresma - 8.5/10 (Man of the Match)

The forgotten star showed everyone his ability at the Dragao. Apart from scoring the two goals, his skills and trickery were difficult for Bayern to contain. His deliveries into the box were also impressive.

Jackson Martinez - 8/10

Tonight proved why all the top teams are in for him. He was constantly at the toes of Bayern defenders and hardly gave them a moment of peace with his impressive workrate. He won the ball off Xabi Alonso to draw the foul from Manuel Neuer for the opener. Then, he controlled a cross brilliantly to score the team's third himself.

Yacine Brahimi - 6/10

He was a livewire on the night. However, his eagerness to take on players rather than passing it to his teammates ensured that Brahimi regularly lost possesion. He also did a good job on the defensive side of things.

Substitutes

Ruben Neves (75') - 5/10

He helped his teammates to see out the game by putting a godd shift in defence.

Hernani (80') - N/A

Hardly any time to make an impact.

Evandro Goebel (84') - N/A

Hardly any time to make an impact.

Manuel Neuer - 5/10

Neuer was lucky to have not been sent off for the foul on Martinez. In the first half, his poor catch from a cross almost resulted in a goal when the ball bounced off the crossbar. Also, his clearances were at times wayward. Nonetheless, he redemeed for it with an excellent save in the second half.

Rafinha - 5/10

He was okay in defending, but hardly did much in attack. Despite going forward regularly, his final ball let him down.

Jerome Boateng - 5/10

Except for the beautiful cross he produced for Thiago's goal, Boateng did not have a good game. He was constantly caught out of position and it was his mistake which allowed Martinez to score his team's third goal.

Dante - 4/10 (Flop of the Match)

Just like his centre back partner, he had another horror night. He gave the ball away for the second goal and his positioning was, at times, questionable. His passing wasn’t good on the night either as he gave the ball away too often.

Juan Bernat - 6/10

He went forward regularly and offered good support on his side by regularly putting the ball into the box. Also, he was always available to track back to help his defenders.

Philip Lahm - 6/10

Due to Porto's high pressing, he struggled to dictate the game in his usual manner. He, nonetheless, kept things moving without making a noteworthy contribution.

Xabi Alonso - 5.5/10

Porto scored their opener after winning the ball from Alonso. Apart from it, he did okay but was nowhere near his best.

Thiago Alcantara - 7/10

He took his goal really well with a good finish. He kept on going until the end, but he couldn't do anything more to reduce the deficit.

Mario Gotze - 5/10

The man who scored the World Cup winning goal was anonymous for most parts of the game. He was rightly taken off at the start of the second half.

Thomas Muller - 6/10

He used his huge physical presence to cause few troubles for Porto defenders and occasionally put in good crosses in the box. However, he couldn't do much to make an impact.

Robert Lewandowski - 5/10

He had a great opportunity early on which he hit it over the net and that was as good as he came to score. He was anonymous for most parts of the game.

Substitutes

Sebastian Rode (56') - 5/10

He came on to change Bayern's fate, but didn't offer anything better than his predecessor apart from getting involved in few moves with his attackers.

Holger Badstuber (74') - 5/10

He helped his team contain the scoreline and prevent going into the second leg trailing by more than 2 goals.
