Fergie plans £50million German raid

Manchester United are reportedly lining up for a double swoop in Germany for Mats Hummels and Lars Bender, reports the Sunday Mirror.

The Borussia Dortmund defender and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder are reportedly valued around £25million and United boss Alex Ferguson would need to pay at least £50million to sign the German pair.

Mats Hummels recently signed a new five-year contract with German Champions Dortmund, but has always been keen to play in England.

“To play in a new country would be flattering,” said Hummels. “I’ve had offers before from abroad and I have to admit that one of them was very interesting. But the timing was not right for me. When you are at a club like Dortmund you just don’t move to any club and there are only four clubs in Europe I would consider.”

Meanwhile, Bender had signed a two-year extension this summer which extends his stay in Germany till 2017, but would likely be easier to sign as Leverkusen had been more of the side who are in need of money.
