#3 Lionel Messi

FC Barcelona v Girona - Pre-Season Friendly
FC Barcelona v Girona - Pre-Season Friendly

Lionel Messi's transfer saga was the most sensational one from this transfer window but it was rather short-lived. After threatening to leave Barcelona owing to poor management, Messi pulled a 180 and decided to stay.

They are yet to kickstart their 2020-21 La Liga campaign but his exploits from last season are good enough to keep him in course for a podium finish. Lionel Messi scored 31 goals and picked up 24 assists for the Cules in the 2019-20 season across all competitions.

But Messi will need a lot more support from the rest of the team this season particularly now that Luis Suarez is also on the verge of leaving the club. It is time for the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann to step up.

#2 Kevin de Bruyne

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester City - Premier League
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester City - Premier League

Arguably the finest midfielder in the game right now, Kevin De Bruyne has been Pep Guardiola's main man for several seasons now. He continues to be the provider-in-chief for Manchester City's talented attackers.

The Belgian rarely has an off game and has started his 2020-21 campaign on a high, scoring a goal and registering an assist in Manchester City's season opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Last season, Messi notched up 16 goals and 22 assists from 46 appearances across all competitions for the Cityzens and we expect more of the same from the 29-year-old this time around.

#1 Robert Lewandowski

FC Bayern Muenchen v FC Schalke 04 - Bundesliga
FC Bayern Muenchen v FC Schalke 04 - Bundesliga

It's not even up for debate this time around. Robert Lewandowski has been a cut above the rest over the past year and he deserves to bag this award for the ridiculous numbers he clocked in the 2019-20 season alone.

Lewandowski was Bayern Munich's main man as they went all the way in Europe and won the continental treble. The Pole has been extraordinary and has been scoring at more than a goal a game.

He has already opened his account this season, converting from the spot in Bayern's 8-0 trouncing of FC Schalke in their season opener. Lewandowski scored 56 goals from 48 games last term and it would be a crime to rob him off the FIFA Best Player Award this time.

Lewandowski scored 15 goals from 10 UEFA Champions League games last season and was the chief architect behind the Bavarians' European triumph.
