Juan Sebastian Veron calls it a day.

Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has retired from professional football bringing his 20-year-long illustrious career to an end.

Aged 39, Veron has hung up his boots while playing for Estudiantes, the club where he had started his career back in 1993. Following a small stint at Boca Juniors, Veron moved to Italy where he won the Scudetto with Inter and Lazio, and a UEFA Cup with Parma. His spell in England was not a great success as he had trouble adapting to the faster pace of the Premier League. He returned to Estudiantes in 2006.

Veron’s new role at Estudiantes will be to work as Director of Sports of the institution.

In his final match at home, Estudiantes registered a 3-0 win over San Lorenzo and Veron was given an incredible sending off from the fans.
