Ex-Manchester City forward Valeri Bojinov is being held in high regard in his country after he helped save a mans life, Yahoo! Sport reports.
The Bulgaria international has had stints at Manchester City, Florentina, Juventus and Leece but is currently on the hunt for a new club after being released by Sporting CP.
While on a trip with his family in Sofia, a man appeared to have suffered a fit at the Vitosha Park mall where he was shopping.
The 27-year-old administered first-aid to the man, who was choking on his own tongue, and attended to him until paramedics arrived on the scene.
“The man was on the ground and was no longer breathing,” eyewitness Krum Savov, who is coincidentally a sports reporter, said.
“His eyes rolled back and then suddenly Valeri ran to the scene and turned him on his side.
“The poor man was suffocating and Valeri tried to pull out his tongue – he was bitten more than once
“I was nearby and saw Bojinov with a damaged finger. Another woman arrived on the scene and helped him to pull the victim’s head back.
“Only then they managed to pull the man’s tongue out and stabilise him. He gradually began to regain consciousness.”
Medical help arrived after about thirty minutes.
“Well, apparently I do good things from time to time,” Bojinov was quoted as saying after the incident.
The striker is looking for a club after being released by Sporting Lisbon this season.
