Bacary Sagna has come clean over his move to the blue part of the Manchester after he denied extending his contract with Arsenal. The 31-year-old defender, currently in Brazil with his international team, spoke with the press after his side played a stalemate with Ecuador.

The move that angered the Arsenal faithful

Sagna, who will follow in the footsteps of Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Nasri & Clichy, is set to become the fifth player to join Manchester City in the last five years from the Gunners.

His move angered many Arsenal fans, as he was once touted as Mr. dependable & Arsenal stuck with him during his time on the sidelines as he suffered two leg breaking injuries in the last two seasons. Few weeks ago, he posted a photo on his official Instagram account thanking Arsenal fans & especially Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, for the support over his stay at the Emirates.

But the recent accusations from Arsenal fans forced the full-back to clear his motives in a press conference.

Sagna issues clarifications in response to accusations

"I'm going to clear everything up because I keep reading that I did for money and I'm greedy," he said.

"What I want to say is I stayed with Arsenal with the same contract since 2008 and I never asked for more money. For people who think it's for money, it's not. I just wanted to change. I needed a boost in my career and I think it was about time."

Sagna held several contract talks with Arsenal and was unsatisfied with the proposed contract. He was also upset that he didn’t receive contract extension offer early as Arsenal extended contracts of other stars such as Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain etc.

The French right-back continued, "It was not an easy time because we were still involved in the FA Cup and it was hard to stay focused.”

"I stayed focused on my team because I have a lot of respect for Arsenal. I believe Arsenal is a great team. I believe we have great quality and we won a trophy finally. It's not even about that because Arsenal have a quality.”

It wasn’t about the money

"It's just that, personally, I wanted a boost. I needed to start from the bottom again."

Many fans were thinking Bacary Sagna left Arsenal just for money and that he would warm the bench at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City already have one of the best right back in the league, that is Pablo Zabaleta. But Sagna is confident above his move.

"It is an exciting time for my career because I'm 31.”

"I know they have a very good right-back in Zabaleta and I will have to fight to find some time on the pitch but I think we have a good team with City and we can do great," he concluded.
