Frank Lampard: Chelsea made a blunder by selling Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool

Veteran Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard believes that Chelsea made a huge mistake by selling Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool. Daniel Sturridge left Stamford bridge for Anfield in January 2013 for a fee of around £12m.

Sturridge was frustrated during his time in Chelsea as he was not a regular in the first team and was also played out of position. Ever since he moved to Liverpool, he has racked up 31 goals in all competitions forming a formidable partnership with Luis Suarez.

Departing Chelsea legend Lampard voices his opinion on the move stating that the Blues made an error in judging his potential to fit in the club.

He said, “I'm really pleased for Sturridge because at Chelsea I think he was a bit frustrated. He felt he could have played more.”

"It was may not be good business for Chelsea. It looks bad, but you look back and you never know. Individually, for him, it was a good move. He has gone from strength to strength.”

Lampard also expressed his pleasure for his England team-mate as the latter found his true game in Liverpool.

"For an English striker scoring as regularly as he has in the Premier League it has been amazing, and he is the sort of striker, the sort of attacking player, we have been crying out for with England.

"He is someone who can make something out of nothing as he did against Peru last week, so he has emerged and deserves to be on this stage."

Incidentally, Sturridge scored 21 league goals in 2013-14 which is more than the goals scored by the Chelsea trio Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres combined.
