Gary Neville will never manage Manchester United, according to the man himself

Neville Valencia Manager
Gary Neville recently took charge of Valencia

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has no intention of ever managing his boyhood club in the future. The acclaimed right back does not ever see himself ever occupying the Old Trafford hot-seat, despite recently being appointed as manager of Valencia.

Neville made the comments while being interviewed by former employers Sky Sports, saying, “No, I don't see myself managing Manchester United at all. I know what I want to do in my life, and that's not something that's in my mind.”

Neville is completely focussed on his Valencia assignment for the moment; and despite being only appointed until the end of the season, has a long term view plan for the Spanish club.

"From my point of view, this is important for me and a valuable experience. I'm aware I need to succeed. Succeeding for me would be knowing these players have improved dramatically. Results come and go, I know we're in a results-driven business, but I have never looked at football like that since I've finished playing. I did when I was a player. As a part-owner, I think about moving forward in the next five, ten years."

While Neville’s commitment to his job seems admirable, the Valencia fans may not be as forgiving, having seen their side bow out of the Champions League in Neville’s first game in charge.

Neville’s comments will surprise former United comrades

Ryan Giggs, who is the current assistant manager at Old Trafford, has been the most prominent candidate for the heir to Sir Alex Ferguson’s throne. However, with Neville dipping his toes into a prominent managerial position, there were many who tipped him to be the long term answer for the United hot-seat.

Former United teammate, Rio Ferdinand, was one of those who saw Neville as a future United manager, saying “Gary knows he has a big job to do and that it won't be an easy ride. What you can be sure of is that the people at the top at Manchester United will be looking at what Gary does now and be interested to see how he gets on.”

“If he does well, there is a very big chance that he will be wanted back at Old Trafford as manager at some point - and that he would be keen on going back as well, a local lad taking over his boyhood club.”

Neville’s comments will surely surprise many, however, this could just be Neville pandering to his most critical audience, the Valencia fans.
