Rumour: Liverpool Captain sent on Champions League scouting mission

Your Ridiculous Rumour of the Day is brought to you by the Daily Express who claim Liverpool and England captain, Steven Gerrard, was on a scouting mission during his recent trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Gerrard, 33, was in attendance as European giants Barcelona strolled to a 2-0 victory over Manchester City last week. He was spotted in the stands with Liverpool’s head of physiotherapy, Chris Morgan, too.

This led to the Express claiming he must have been there to scout City, or Barcelona – or maybe he was just sampling two of the best sides in Europe go head-to-head just a short car journey away?

Liverpool play City in a few weeks as they look to close the gap further at the top of the Premier League. They currently lie in fourth place, just a point behind City and four behind the leaders, Chelsea.

Their 4-3 win over Swansea on Sunday stretched a six-point lead of fifth-placed Tottenham so their eyes are now firmly on fighting for their elusive 19th English first division crown.

With 9 assists, Gerrard leads the way (alongside Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez) in the Premier League this season.
