What's the story?

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has named his favourites to win the UEFA Champions League this season and has also snubbed his team's attacking frontmen to name another club's front three as the best in European football at the moment.

In case you didn't know...

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are set to go head-to-head with Liverpool in a crucial Champions League clash on Thursday.

The French giants will be looking for vengeance this time around following a loss in their first game against the Premier League side.

Jurgen Klopp's side succumbed the Ligue 1 outfit to a 3-2 defeat on Matchday 1, when Roberto Firmino, one of Liverpool's attacking trio, scored a late winner for his side.

The heart of the matter

Ahead of their crucial game, veteran keeper Buffon has heaped praise on his opponent's front three - Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino- hailing them as the best-attacking trio in Europe at the moment.

Speaking in an interview with The Mirror, Buffon said, "Liverpool have a very strong team - but I do especially look at their front players."

"With Salah, Mane, and Firmino they have so much pace, so much creativity, and of course they are all big goal threats."

"Throughout my career, I have always wanted to test myself against the best — and at the moment you really can't think of any teams in Europe who have a better front three than Liverpool."

The Italian legend also spoke about the teams he thinks have the potential to lift the trophy this season.

He said, "This season, I see the favourites for the Champions League as Barcelona, Juventus, and Manchester City. Liverpool as well have a big chance and you can never forget about Real Madrid."

"Of course it is still a dream of mine to win the Champions League - last season I thought would be my last chance but now I have another one."

What's next?

PSG currently stand at third place in the Champions League Group C table with 5 points while Liverpool are just above them in second place with 6 points.
