Manchester United fans have sparked a global trend on Twitter by using 'GlazersOut' as a hashtag in protest against the bosses due to their failure to recruit fresh players in the ongoing transfer window.
The resentment among the United supporters was developing over a period of time and it reached its threshold yesterday when their anger spurted out on the social media.
The 'GlazersOut' hashtag was initiated in the UK.
What's this movement all about?
United have seen themselves fall way behind their rivals, with Manchester City and Liverpool assembling world class squads. The Red Devils have failed to challenge for the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement and the fans have held the club's owners as the culprits for its decline in recent season.
Ed Woodward has transformed United into one of the world's most commercially dominant football clubs. However, he has failed to translate his financial success into sporting decisions. As a result, the Reds have constantly underperformed in the transfer market.
Jose Mourinho was relieved of his managerial duties at Old Trafford after enduring the worst start to a Premier League season in club's history. After his sacking, the Portuguese pointed out the flaws in the club's backroom structure, and he did so by saying:
“People might say: ‘This guy is crazy, he won 25 titles and now he says that second position with United was one of his best achievements in football.
“I keep saying this because people don’t know what is going on behind the scenes.
"The club must have an owner or a president, a CEO or executive director, a football director and then the manager. This is the structure that can cope with all the problems modernity is bringing all of us.
"A club must be very well organised to cope with all these kind of situations where the manager is only the manager and not the man that is trying to keep the discipline or is trying to educate the players.”
There were developments last season which suggested that the Old Trafford chiefs are searching for an able candidate to be their first Director of Football. But there has been no such appointments this summer and it does not seem likely too.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer talked about the rebuild process and he anticipated a plethora of business in the ongoing transfer window. The manager stressed on his squad by saying,
"You can't change your whole squad. One step at a time.
"I will be successful here. There are players here that won't be part of that."
The Norwegian has not yet observed a drastic improvement in his squad. United's soporific transfer business has angered the supporters- which has compelled them to turn towards the owners.
Such a movement also took place in 2009 when the fans donned the green and yellow scarfs to express their protest against the American owners- accusing them of using the club's appeal to remit their financial debts.
