Guti has never been shy of taking a swipe at the Rojiblancos

Former Real Madrid attacking midfielder Guti has taken a swipe at Atletico Madrid telling that no player from their team is good enough to play for Real Madrid. Atletico Madrid have been very competitive under Diego Simeone in the past few seasons, but Guti was not impressed with Simeone’s players.

When asked which Atletico Madrid player he would sign for Zidane’s team, Guti retorted: “that’s a tricky one, I can’t think of one who’d cut it at Real Madrid”.

However, Guti did admit that the Madrid derby has become a lot closer than before.

“Back in my time going to the Calderón was a stroll in the park shall we say. Simeone has made it a far more difficult fixture. Atlético are one of Madrid’s toughest rivals now”.

The former Real Madrid attacking midfielder also swatted away Simeone’s remarks that Real Madrid were getting preferential treatment.

“Simeone is a great manager, but he’s talking nonsense. If anyone’s getting favourable treatment it’s Barcelona. Penalty decisions, offside goals…”.

The much anticipated Madrid derby will take place tonight, and it is a must win game for Guti’s old team if they want to remain alive in the title race. However, the Spaniard was not too confident about Real madrid’s chances in the La Liga.

“we have to show the fans that we can fight right till the end”, but admitted “it’s very unlikely now, we’ll have to try and do well in the Champions League”.

Guti says Neymar deserves an Oscar for diving

Former Real Madrid star Jose Maria Guti has laid into Barcelona forward Neymar, claiming that the Brazilian is a serial diver on the pitch. As such, Guti joked that Neymar deserved an Oscar for ‘best actor’ given his alleged theatrics on the pitch.

Guti was speaking at a promotional event ahead of the Madrid derby on Saturday, and did not just single out Neymar for criticism as he laid into a trio of Barcelona players, saying “Barcelona’s players make theatre. Neymar, Jordi Alba and Dani Alves exaggerate more than necessary when they need to.”

“Neymar deserves the Oscar for best actor for the many films he has done.”

Given Guti’s obvious allegiances, it is hardly surprising that he has criticized the Barcelona forward. The Spaniard was a fan-favourite at the Santiago Bernabeu, as he made over 500 appearances for Real Madrid, and won 15 trophies at the club in a 16-year spell, which included 3 Champions League trophies as well.

However, it’s not just rivals who have criticized Neymar for diving – Brazilian legend Pele acknowledged earlier that Neymar has a tendency to dive, saying “Diving is his characteristic, I think he tries to create fouls and situations that are not there. This part of his game lets him down.”
