Fernando José Torres Sanz is celebrating his 34th birthday today. The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker remains one of the most cherished footballers in the premier league history. The Spanish International was the star of the Euro cup final in 2008 and 2012.

Torres started his premier league career after joining Liverpool in 2007. In his first season at Liverpool, Torres proved his knack to the football world by scoring 24 premier league goals. This made him the most prolific foreign striker in a debut season in the premier league era.

Torres gained popularity in the English clubs pretty quickly. Benitez (then Liverpool coach) heaped praises on the striker saying “When we bought him we were signing a top-class player for a figure we were not paying before. We were really pleased to pay this. We had a list of strikers and were analyzing their strengths and weaknesses and Torres had a lot of positive things and we decided he was the player. I don't know what he would be worth now, maybe £70m. No one could buy him. This year we have had agents asking me about the price, but we say he's not for sale.”

After moving to Chelsea in 2011, Torres faced a lot of criticism in his new club over the years. The revered striker won both the Champions League and Europa League during his time in West London, where he is still considered a legend.

Not working on his plans, Torres joined his boyhood club Atletico Madrid at the twilight of his career. Due to his ability to get behind the defenders in a crunch situation, the high-class striker has earned the favors of Diego Simeone many times to get a berth in the squad.

Torres has been recently linked with Newcastle United for a possible move this season. The attacker’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season with Atletico Madrid. If Newcastle United is able to acquire Torres for a free transfer, this would add a lot of value and experience in their squad.

The football fraternity took to Twitter to wish the Spanish forward on his special day.
