What's the story?

Former Arsenal legend, Robert Pires, claims that Zinedine Zidane would be a great appointment for Chelsea and hails his fellow World Cup winning teammate as a warrior.

In case you didn't know...

Chelsea hired Maurizio Sarri at the start of the current 2018/19 season and despite starting well, the Italian manager job is at risk after Chelsea's dismal start to the year 2019.

Under the tutelage of Sarri, Chelsea reached the Carabao Cup Final which they lost against Manchester City. But the team dropping out of top four spot in the Premier League has seen the Italian coach getting a lot of criticism in past few months.

Chelsea are currently 6th in the Premier League table with 56 points, two points below 4th placed Manchester United but have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane did a fantastic job with Real Madrid in his first coaching stint but decided to take a sabbatical after winning three Champions League amidst a plethora of other trophies with the club.

The heart of the matter

Since his break from football, Zidane remains one of the managers who has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League giants and Juventus.

Former Arsenal superstar Pires believes his former French teammate would be an ideal fit for Chelsea as he sees Maurizio Sarri moving on after the end of the season.

"I think Zidane would be a very good appointment at Chelsea. He would demand respect from the Chelsea players and control the dressing room as a result of everything he has achieved both on the pitch as a player and on the bench as a manager. ", said Pires on an interview with Bwin.
“He’s a winner and a warrior. He’s had great success in the UEFA Champions League which is attractive to the Chelsea owner. It would be very good news for the Premier League if Zidane moved to England", concluded the former Arsenal winger.

What's next?

Chelsea will face Dynamo Kyiv in the Europa League before turning their sights towards Premier League where they face Wolves.
