Manchester City’s nightmare in the Champions League continued with a shock 2-1 loss at home to CSKA Moscow. To make matters worse for the Citizens, both Yaya Toure and Fernandinho were sent off, and they will miss City’s next crucial tie against Bayern Munich.

The defending Premier League champions are currently bottom of the group with just two points and must win their next game to have a chance at qualifying for the last 16.

Seydou Doumbia grabbed a brace for the Russian club while Toure also got on the scoresheet with a free kick. Sergio Aguero also had two penalty appeals turned down on a frustrating night for Manchester City.

Manchester City 0-1 CSKA Moscow: Doumbia (2’)

Doumbia gave Moscow the lead as early as the second minute of the game when a free kick sent in by Bebras Natcho was headed home from the centre of the box into the top corner.

Manchester City 1-1 CSKA Moscow: Toure (8’)

Yaya Toure then equalized six minuted later when Stevan Jovetic won a free kick outside the box near the centre. Toure cleared the wall and beat the goalkeeper to put the ball in the back of the net.

Manchester City 1-2 CSKA Moscow: Doumbia (34’)

Doumbia struck again in the first half when Natcho found him again with a ball that beat the defenders. Doumbia took one touch and finished with a shot into the bottom left corner that beat a diving Joe Hart.

Toure was then sent off for a foul on Roman Eremenko. While the Moscow midfielder tried to win the ball from the Ivorian, Toure pushed him to the ground in frustration and got his marching orders from the referee.
