Barcelona Midfielders
Pochettino’s midfielders tend to work hard and press, so the midfield is where the game can be decided. Barcelona have talent oozing through their squad.
Sergio Busquets is expected to sit deep and dictate the tempo of the game, while the duo of Frenkie de Jong and Pedri are expected to play in slightly more advanced roles.
Pedri has impressed this season with his bustling displays in midfield, and he has linked up well with the attackers.
De Jong is another player who will be key while trying to break the PSG defense. If PSG adopt a more pragmatic approach, De Jong’s vision and weight of pass will be crucial in the attacking third.
The Dutchman will also be important during the transition phases, as PSG have plenty of pace and might look to play on the counter.
Barcelona Forwards
The focus will once again be on Lionel Messi, and if his display against Alaves is anything to go by, we could be in for one hell of a match. The Argentine needs to step up in the bigger games and PSG will be a good test.
Messi has coincidentally been linked with a move to PSG, but regardless of what happens, he will want to put in a good display and lead the team from the front.
Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann are expected to play as the support cast, and will look to make their own impact. Griezmann is only behind Messi on the goal-scoring list for Barcelona this season, and he is finally starting to show his best form in a Barcelona jersey.
With Ansu Fati injured, Dembele will once again have the chance to shine, and he needs to take his opportunity. The Frenchman is yet to score in 2021, so finding the back of the net against PSG would be a good time to break his duck.
