The transfer of Tanguy Ndombele to Tottenham Hotspur from Lyon is looking ever more likely, according to Sky Sports. This would make Ndombele Spurs' first signing in over a year. So with that being said, if Spurs were to buy him, how would Ndombele improve their side?

The 22-year-old's powerful running, passing range, and strength make him stand out as an all-round player. He would be the perfect man to partner with Moussa Sissoko in midfield if Spurs get him. Furthermore, although he specializes in providing a defensive block in front of the defence, Ndombele showed his attacking capabilities last season with 7 assists and 3 goals for Lyon. To put into context how impressive that is, Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric only managed one more goal contribution. Ndombele can create chances for the players around him and break down the opposition defense, something some current Spurs midfielders lack at the moment.

Tanguy Ndombele is also capable of filling the defensive gap left by Mousa Dembele last season after achieving 9 clean sheets last season at Lyon, only two less than the current Spurs squad. It is clear that adding Ndombele to an already steady defense will push Spurs up there with the best defensive sides in the league.

However, not only will Ndombele be expected to fill the shoes of Mousa Dembele, but also the creative shoes of Christian Eriksen who could leave this summer. Many Spurs fans have been worried because if Eriksen decides to leave, they won't be able to replace his creativity and 10 or more assists per season. However, there is little need to worry about that happening if Daniel Levy completes the signing of Ndombele. His tidy passing and powerful running will replace the potential absence of Christian Eriksen. Ndombele's signing would clearly establish Spurs as the best team in London over the likes of Chelsea who - let's face it - wouldn't get near this Spurs side in their current state.

To conclude, Tanguy Ndombele is the right fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. His all-around game is perfect for the Premier League and will benefit Tottenham immensely. Alongside his strong defensive work, Spurs will have a creative player in Ndombele, and this makes him an almost perfect signing.
