If no Rooney deal, who is Plan B and C? Eto'o, Suarez, Lewandowski?

With two weeks until the end of the summer transfer window and with a third official bid for Rooney rumoured to be on the cards in the coming days, it seems that Jose Mourinho has confirmed that alternative options are now being considered if United stand firm and refuse to sell. The question I ask in response to that is ‘Who are those alternatives?”

Let’s start by looking at what Jose actually said this afternoon in his pre match press conference ahead of Aston Villa tomorrow night:

“We trust a lot in our project for the future because the team is very, very young, But we have conditions to try and improve our team by bringing in one more player and we are going to try that until the end.

When you think that you’d like to have one player and the market is open, then official bids are not forbidden. Official bids are always accepted in an ethical way.

You try because nobody forbids you to try and, of course, the player’s owners can do exactly what we did in relation to David Luiz and Barcelona.

We have a plan B and a plan C! Don’t ask me names, because it’s difficult to speak about players from other clubs.”

So, let’s have a look a three possible players that Jose Mourinho could turn to if our approaches for Rooney continue to be rebuffed! One thing to consider is why I personally believe Jose wants Rooney and it’s worth checking out my post here. I see Rooney playing the same role Eidur Gudjohnsen did back in 2004/2005 for Jose.

Would any of these alternative options provide Jose with the same?

1. Samuel Eto’o

Eto’o, as we all know, was world class back in the day and has worked for Jose at Inter Milan. At 32, and on a ridiculous amount of money, any deal wouldn’t be cheap and you have to immediately call to question his age and whether or not any offer for Eto’o would be worth it.

Eto’o is a different player to those we have up front already. Lukaku is know for his strength, Torres for his all round ability and Demba Ba, well I’m still not 100% certain he is a Chelsea player.

Eto’o is lightening quick and provides our midfield with a very realistic option over the top of the defence, as he proved against us at Stamford Bridge.

A proven goal scorer on the highest level and someone who has previously played for Mourinho, Eto’o has already been talking up a move to Chelsea this week. Is he being realistic?

2. Luis Suarez

How about Luis Suarez as an outside option? Before you judge me, think about the current situation. A “truce” has been called at Liverpool after they rejected the reported £40,000,001 bid from Arsenal for his services.

He stated openly that he felt that Liverpool have gone back on their word after they missed out on Champions League football last season. He stated that he felt “let down” by Liverpool over the whole Ivanovic biting incident etc. If you ask me, Suarez given the chance of Champions League football, would bite your hand off for it (no pun intended!).

Arsenal have tried and failed and as yet there has been no movement from Real Madrid even though Suarez was talking up a move there back at the beginning of pre season. So would Jose and Chelsea consider Luis Suarez as a realistic option?

Let’s be honest about Suarez here from someone outside of Liverpool and the biased view you would expect them to have of him. The bloke is a nut-case and obviously has a screw loose but, if you can get all that under control and get him to concentrate on the football, to cut out all of the other crap that comes with him, he is world class.

Could Suarez provide Mourinho with another alternative but similar to that of how Eidur played for Mourinho as the link man? No one can ever question his eye for a goal but to be the link man? I am not so sure.

Is Luis Suarez a realistic alternative to Wayne Rooney and someone we could be considering before the window closes? Would he want to come to Chelsea?

3. Robert Lewandowski

The outsider would be Robert Lewandowski in my opinion, but in my view he is the PERFECT FIT. We have heard that he has reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to sign for them next season but as far as I know, pen hasn’t been put to paper. If Bayern wanted the player, why not sign for them THIS season?

Would Jose Mourinho be interested in Lewandowski in this window and look to put a deal together for the player to turn his back on Bayern? The player has openly admitted that this will be his last season at the club before he wants to move on so why would Dortmund turn their back on a big money move from Chelsea?

Mourinho knows better than anyone his ability as Lewandowski scored FOUR goals in one game against Real Madrid in the Champions League and on their way to the final last season.

Lewandowski has it all, and in the video I have posted for you have have a look for yourselves, you can see he is a predator in and around the box. Similar to that of Torres in his prime, Lewandowski is two footed, quick, calm and composed and has fantastic movement off the ball.

Imagine Lewandowski playing as the main striker feeding off of balls from the likes of Hazard, Mata, Oscar, Moses, Schurrle and Kevin De Bruyne.

He isn’t a link man like Rooney and is more of a finisher but surely if there was a chance for Chelsea to make a move to sign him, Mourinho would find it hard to turn down?

So there you have it, the contenders for Jose Mourinho’s “Plan B and Plan C” as far as I see it, but what do YOU, the football fan, reading this think about all this?

With just two weeks remaining until the end of the transfer window, it’s the calm before the storm. With plenty of big names being linked with big money moves, I can see this being such a busy time for plenty of clubs wanting to do business.

Chelsea would like to do business and that’s clear. Who do YOU want to see Chelsea sign?
