Iker Casillas: A goalkeeper of his own class

Iker Casillas is now 32!! All his life time he has devoted himself to Real Madrid, a club for which he has been playing since he was only 9 years old. Since the, he has been impressing everyone and always silencing his critics who had wrong views for him. This goalkeeper has now played in 654 matches for his club.

“Saint Iker”, as they call him, is the best goalkeeper that we all know. He has received many individual honours in his entire career and we hope of him getting them more. A look at his honours:

Bravo Award (2000)

La Liga Breakthrough Player of the Year (2000)

UEFA Team of the Year (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012)

Zamora Trophy (2007-08)

UEFA Euro Team of the Tournament (2008; 2012)

ESM Team of the Year (2008)

FIFA/FIFPro World XI (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012)

IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012)

La Liga Best Goalkeeper (2009, 2012)

FIFA World Cup Golden Glove (2010)

FIFA World Cup All-Star Team (2010)

This shows how experienced, how fantastic and how talented he is.

As during 2012- 13 season, Casillas has won Best Goalkeeper’s Award 5 times, he is now the only goalkeeper in the history to win this award for the fifth time consecutive in a row. Also, during 2011-12 season, as he won the same award for the fourth time, he was the second goalkeeper to win the award four times after Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon.

Unluckily, it was on 22 December, 2012, when Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho offered him the bench in favour of second keeper Antonio Adan in a 3-2 defeat against Malaga.

It was not enough as in January 2013, during Copa del Rey’s quarter final first leg against Valencia, Iker suffered a major thumb injury due to which he was substituted by Antonio Adan, and the Spain international is still struggling for his berth which is now captured by winter signing Diego Lopez.

Now, all the team mates are in support of Casillas, especially Sergio Ramos, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Iniesta, and Pepe, who is now not a choice for Mourinho as a defender just because he argued with his boss for the ill treatment with the keeper.

Let’s hope he rejoin his first team very soon under Real Madrid’s new manager!! Till then all the best and once again Happy Birthday To You!
