Right-back: Davide Calabria

Mattia De Sciglio's transfer to Juventus left a huge void in this position, but thankfully for Milan, Calabria has rose to take over the mantle and effectively cement the void. He's proved to be really good both offensively as well as defensively, bombing forward at will whilst also tracking back in time to cover the gap he left behind.

The 21-year old averages over 3 tackles and almost 2 clearances per game, comfortably beating his opposite number Daniel D'Ambrosio.

Centre-back: Stefan De Vrij

Inter Milan signed the Dutchman from Lazio in order to beef up the backline, and he's doing a great job so far, conveniently dovetailing in Spaletti's schemes and marshalling the backline with great authority. De Vrij's ability to sniff danger has seen him make almost 4 clearances per game.

He has also forged a great understanding with Skriniar in no time. Never one to hold back from throwing his entire frame while making a block, the centre-back's intervention will be essential in keeping Milan at an arm's length.

Centre-back: Milan Skriniar

Skriniar joins his defensive acolyte here in the combined line-up, having turned in a string of positive performances so far. The 23-year old is robust, powerful and throws his weight around in the defence when Inter where on the backfoot.

He too averages almost 4 clearances per game while his fearlessness in trying to thwart an attack has seen him make 2.2 tackles per game.

Left-back: Kwadwo Asamoah

The Ghanian fullback is now in his 10th year in the Serie A, and with his third club, but he has consistently delivered for Udinese, Juventus and now Inter, where he has got off to a flyer.

Asamoah has made 10 interceptions in 7 games while his penchant to zip forward at every opportunity has also resulted in five chances created. He also maintains great work-rate and never stops for a second to take a breather.
