Italy's Giorgio Chiellini says Luis Suarez knew exactly what he doing when he bit him

Giorgio Chiellini says the referee knew what Suarez did

Italy centre-back Giorgio Chiellini has angrily accused Luis Suarez of knowing exactly what he was doing following the controversy surrounding the striker in Uruguay’s 1-0 victory over Italy, according to BBC’s Ben Smith.

With the scores at 0-0 it appeared as if Suarez sank his teeth into Chiellini and the Italian defender reacted furiously, trying to show the referee what looked like bite marks in his shoulder.

Speaking after the game Chiellini was damning in his criticism of Suarez saying: “It is clear, clear-cut. Suarez knew very well that he did something he shouldn’t have.”He then continued: “Suarez is a sneak and he gets away with it because FIFA want their stars to play in the World Cup.

“I’d love to see if they have the courage to use the video evidence against him. The referee saw the bite mark too, but he did nothing about it.”

This isn’t the first time Suarez has been accused of biting with the Liverpool forward found guilty of biting a player in a match for Ajax and for Liverpool. On the first occasion he was banned for seven games and in the second he was banned for ten.

There have been calls for FIFA to act and to ban Suarez for the rest of the World Cup with the argument being that this sets an extremely bad precedent.

Moments after the incident Diego Godin headed Uruguay into the lead and despite a late flurry the South Americans held on to progress to the next round and knock Italy out.
