Jamie Carragher: Eden Hazard could carry Chelsea to the Premier League title

Former Liverpool defender and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes that Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard has the ability to fire Jose Mourinho’s side to the title on his own.

The Belgian has been in outstanding form recently and his performances have helped the west Londoners open up a four point gap over their rivals at the top of the league with just 10 matches left to play.

The 23-year-old provided two assists for hat-trick hero Andre Schurrle in the convincing 3-1 victory over Fulham on Saturday and Carragher is adamant the former Lille playmaker is playing so well that he is fast approaching the high standards set by Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez throughout the campaign.

“Hazard has got to be on the tail of Luis Suarez for player of the year.

“He could, with his own performances take Chelsea to the title, as Suarez could for Liverpool,” he declared.

Suarez is top of the Premier League goal scoring and assists charts with 24 and 10 respectively, while Hazard has managed 12 strikes and provided seven assists. The individual accolade looks beyond Hazard in truth, unless Suarez’s discipline falters in the run-in, but the winger is four years the Merseyside man’s junior and some way from his peak.

Although Hazard’s totals are some way short of his rivals, he has been Chelsea’s star performer and, with the absence of a top quality centre forward at the club, it is likely Hazard’s contribution will decide whether Mourinho will go on to claim a third league crown with the Blues.
