Joleon Lescott completes move from Manchester City to West Brom

Joleon Lescott

Former Manchester City centre-back Joleon Lescott has signed for West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer.

Earlier in the week, reports of Hull City’s interest in Lescott surfaced although it now appears that Alan Irvine has beaten Steve Bruce to the signing.

Lescott was released as a free agent by City on 24 May, alerting a multitude of Premier League clubs to his availability.

The 26-capped England international will become Alan Irivine’s first signing of the summer following the 55-year-old’s installment as the new Baggies boss on Wednesday.

After his acrimonious switch from Everton in the summer of 2009, Lescott spent five years at Manchester City, winning the Premier League twice in that time.

Since the 2011/12 campaign when he made 31 appearances the Birmingham-born defender has found regular first-team football hard to come by, only making eight starts in the season just gone.

As such, Manuel Pellegrini opted not to offer the Wolves academy product a new contract, leading to his release last month.

Joleon Lescott won 70% of his headed duels for Manchester City last season.
