During Chelsea’s defeat to Crystal Palace last night on Saturday in the Premier League, manager Jose Mourinho warned a Crystal Palace ball boy about the danger of confronting a heated player.

“I thought that [Cesar] Azpilicueta was going to do something that a player can do when he loses his emotional control,” Mourinho told reporters post-match. “The kids are educated to do this but if a player hits a ball boy, the person that educates them disappears.”

Apparently a young ball boy tried to waste some time so as to help Palace seal the victory which annoyed Chelsea full back Cesar Azpilicueta to that extent that Mourinho had to intervene in order to avoid a repeat of Eden Hazard’s incident with a Swansea ball boy last season.

“The ballboy stays and the player in trouble stays, that pushes the kids or punches the kid or kicks the kid,” he added. “And the way Azpi was going I thought [he might] because the kids were doing that all the time.”

“I went to stop Azpi and after that I had a chance to get the kid and the kid was cute.”

Mentioning his brief conversation with the ball boy, Mourinho said, “He [the ball boy] came to me and I told him, ‘You do this, one day will somebody punch you’. Last year the same thing happened with Eden but the kids, it’s not their fault.”
