Jose Mourinho has played down rumours that Didier Drogba could be returning to Chelsea in a coaching role in the summer. The Ivory Coast striker is highly regarded as a Chelsea legend, winning the European Cup and three Premier League trophies.

There had been speculation that Mourinho wanted Drogba back at Stamford Bridge when his current contract with Galatasaray expires in order to help bring through the next generation of strikers for the Blues.

But Mourinho has played down talk of Drogba’s impending move into an off-field position, insisting he still has more to give as a player.

Mourinho claimed that Drogba is, “Not a striker’s coach, just a striker. One of the best in the world.”

This has poured scorn on the idea that Drogba could hang up his boots or move into a part-time role at the end of the season, though it is believed Mourinho would be keen on recruiting his former charge when he does decide to give up his playing career.
