The One That Got Away: Rooney is out of Chelsea’s grasp

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has stated that the club’s summer transfer window business had come to an end after his club went down to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Super Cup.

Chelsea have had a busy transfer window with the club upgrading their squad, but Mourinho had identified Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney as a top target.

The Portuguese had numerous bids for the English International turned down by United who made it clear that their star man is not for sale.

Mourinho then turned to Samuel Eto’o, a player who he managed at Inter Milan, for support and signed him this week. Mourinho stated that the Wayne Rooney pursuit had come to an end, and any arrivals before Monday’s deadline is highly unlikely.

On being asked whether there would be any more signings, he told Sky Sports, “It’s the end. We have a good group.

“Samuel will give us other kind of qualities in attack. He is an experienced player in a team that needs some experienced players.”

When he was asked about Rooney, Mourinho added: “For all parties, it’s finished. One thing is to tell you through other people that you want, you want, you want very much, but at the end of the day…

“I feel everyone has the right to show his life, his future and I respect that.”
