Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Chelsea for the second time

Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Chelsea. Just seven months after the winning the Premier League title, Chelsea have confirmed that they have ‘parted company’ with the Portuguese manager. The club are languishing in 16th place in the Premier League table, following their 2-1 loss away to Leicester.

In a club statement on their official website, Chelsea said, “Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today parted company by mutual consent.” “All at Chelsea thank Jose for his immense contribution since he returned as manager in the summer of 2013. His three league titles, FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in our 110-year history. But both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways.”

“The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea. His legacy at Stamford Bridge and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Stamford Bridge. The club’s focus is now on ensuring our talented squad reaches its potential.”

“There will be no further comment until a new appointment is made.”

Following their loss to Leicester, Mourinho's managerial role faced increased speculation, with reports emerging that Juande Ramos was in line to take his job. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic also convened an emergency board meeting yesterday, as they discussed terminating the Portuguese manager’s contract just seven months after giving him a four year deal.

After a 9 hour long deliberation yesterday, Chelsea's top officials were rumoured to take a vote on Mourinho’s future today. It seems that Roman Abramovic has made the final decision, informing Mourinho of his fate this morning at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground. Mourinho’s rumoured payoff £30 million payoff seems to have not transpired, with reports saying that Mourinho will only be paid until the end of the season.

With Mourinho sacked for the second time in his tenure, rumours are emerging that Guus Hiddink, Fabio Capello and Juande Ramos are in line to be interim manager until the end of the season.
