Recent reports linking Barcelona striker Luis Suarez with a switch to Premier League club Manchester United have been dismissed by Barcelona football club president Josep Bartomeu, who insists that the Uruguayan will remain at Camp Nou.

"We read, we listen, we see this news, but of course, our interest in this particular case is that Luis Suarez is happy at Barcelona," said the Barcelona president speaking to Sky Sports. "For me, he is probably the best striker in Europe, and we want him to be with us. Right now, we are trying to extend his contract with Barcelona, and he is one of our big future efforts because he is still young, he has a vision, a lot of ambition.”

"He is happy at Barcelona and together with Lionel Messi and Neymar, they are really very dangerous. Everybody knows, and he knows, that our wish would be that he stops his career at Barcelona at any time he wants," Bartomeu added.

"He is the best player in the world, he is the No 1 by far of other players and of course there are all the opinions, but he is the best player in the history of football."

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho brought in Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic this season hoping that he would replicate the same kind of goal scoring form during his days with PSG.

But the big Swede has failed to score in his last five appearances for the club in the Premier League and has been struggling with his form. And with Wayne Rooney not performing the way he used to, reports suggested that Mourinho was on the lookout for a new striker and Suarez was the best candidate.

There were several reports in the English media which claimed that Manchester United were willing to offer Barcelona €140 million for the services of the former Liverpool striker. Suarez had recently expressed his desire to end his football career at Barcelona and that he was also in talks over an extended contract.

Neymar Jr and Javier Mascherano were rewarded with a contract extension with Barcelona recently and according to the Spanish media, Suarez will get an improved deal which will see him earn €16m per season till the year 2021.

The Uruguayan has been hugely successful for Barcelona having scored 94 goals in 145 appearances since he arrived at Camp Nou for £65 million from Liverpool.
