JT: Great news but who should be the partnership now?

LONDON, ENGLAND – NOVEMBER 11: John Terry of Chelsea is injured in a collision with Luis Suarez of Liverpool during the Barclays Premier League match between Chelsea and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on November 11, 2012 in London, England.

What great news it was yesterday, to find out that John Terry‘s injury is not a serious as first thought, and it will only be weeks and not months until he is able to return to captain the side.

Initially it looked like a real bad injury, as we all know that JT doesn’t stay down on the pitch unless he is really injured. Even seeing photos of the challenge looks awful, but thankfully it isn’t as bad as first thought.

The thing is, we have seen how weak we are at the back without him there, as RDM has looked to try and find the right balance in his absence.

David Luiz and Gary Cahill have started more games together in recent times, but we saw at Swansea and against Liverpool after JT went off, the new partnership of Cahill and Ivanovic and I wonder if that for now is the way forward?

Cesar Azpiliceuta for me had a good game the other day, and showed he can cope with the demands of the Premier League, and this gives RDM the option of moving Ivanovic into his favoured position in the middle.

LONDON, ENGLAND – OCTOBER 31: Gary Cahill of Chelsea celebrates his goal during the Capital One Cup Fourth Round match between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on October 31, 2012 in London, England.

According to reports, we are waiting for the swelling around JT’s knee to go down before more tests can establish just how long he would be out for, and reports indicate between two to six weeks.

RDM is now forced into making a decision in relation to how he moves forward with our defensive partnership in the middle, and after David Luiz’s performance against Shakhtar and concerns people have with his defensive abilities, you have to wonder if the Cahill and Ivanovic partnership is the way forward until JT returns?

For me, Cahill should be a nailed on starter for Chelsea and it’s just down to RDM as to who he decides to play next to him, and as soon as JT returns, it should be those two playing next to each other!.

Thank god we have good news about JT, but like I said, who does RDM decide to stick with in his absence?
