New Season; New Contract!

Leicester City have announced that Kasper Schmeichel has signed a new five-year contract at the club. His new contract has tied him to the club until 2021.

The Denmark international played every minute of Leicester City’s historic 2015/16 Premier League winning season. He kept 15 clean sheets during last season's triumph as the Welsh club surprised all to an amazing fairytale season!

He has been a key member of the squad since his arrival in the summer of 2011 – winning promotion in 2014, surviving relegation in 2015 and then winning the Premier League in 2016! He’ s made over 200 apps for the club and has been their #1 for the past 5 years.

Speaking to LCFC TV, Schmeichel said: "I'm just buzzing and I can't wait for the season to get started. It was a very easy decision. It was a case of coming back after winning the Premier League and making sure that the hunger was the same within myself and the squad. I've come back absolutely convinced that this is the place for me to be.

"We've taken some massive steps and ever since I arrived it's been fantastic. I've loved being here from minute one."

Leicester City will look to repeat what they did last season but it won’ t be anywhere close to easy. Almost all the Premier League clubs have strengthen their squad and have rejuvenated confidence thanks to the Foxes magical 2015/16 season.

The Foxes have managed to hold onto 2 of their 3 top players with Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez still at the club but steam-engine from the midfield, N’Golo Kante has joined Chelsea. Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez were heavily linked with a move to Arsenal but Ranieri and the other Leicester City player have managed to convince them to stay at the club.

Leicester City have had dismal pre-season in the International Champions League drawn 1 and lost 2 of their matches. They managed to win 7-6 on penalties vs Celtic after a 1-1 draw but got trashed 4-0 by PSG and then 4-2 by Barcelona. Their only win during the pre-season came at Oxford United where Gray and Schlupp scored to secure a come from behind 2-1 victory. Claudio Ranieri's side now face Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in the Community Shield finals on Sunday at Wembley.

Apart from a new contract for his amazing performance last season, Kasper Schmeichel has received a new BMW i8 – something which the Leicester City owners have bought for all the players involved in their title winning season!
