They say God sends you on Earth for a specific purpose. For Kenneth Dalglish, that seems to make sure that his beloved Liverpool FC reaches where it belongs, back at the pinnacle of world football once again.
His club started crumbling after a very good 2008-09 season. Poor management, greedy owners and some shambolic on and off field decisions threatened to destroy the very core of this prestigious institution. The next two seasons haunted every Liverpool supporter.
Then in August 2010, the tyrants were somehow thrown out of the club and the change in ownership happened. The new owners gave some time to the man (You Know Who!) who now has the record of having the shortest managerial tenure in Liverpool history. And then, two months after taking helm of the club, they made their most important call. The King returned to his throne. The very throne he proudly occupied in the 80s, leading Liverpool to glory year after year, until the toll of the Hillsborough disaster proved too much and he decided to retire. Some termed the decision to bring him back as an emotional which wouldn’t do the club any good, since he was out of the game for so many years. But they were forgetting he had won everything one could hope for as a player and a manager, in fact he is one of the 5 managers to have won the EPL, the thing people mock Liverpool with. He transformed the team’s season and took them from the bottom to 6th in few months.
But the most important thing that the appointment did was it brought back stability to the club once again. There was positivity around Anfield, which was missing earlier.
Fast forward to January 21, 2012. The team puts in the worst performance under his tenure. People start calling for heads, some wanted King Kenny’s head, if you could believe it!
Forward to January 28, 2012. The club is in its first final after 2007 after beating the likes of stoke city, Chelsea and Manchester city and is almost sure to beat championship side Cardiff city on 26th February to lift the carling cup which would end the 5 year trophy drought. They have dumped their fiercest rivals, Manchester united out of the FA cup.
Two wins in a week against the best two teams in the country is a sure sign of progress, as would be a first trophy since 2006. The performances have been pretty good throughout the season and deserved more points than they currently have. The progress is there for everyone to see. All the supporters should do is trust the man.
He’s a great man, a father figure to the players, a legend and a great manager but I think if you saw his face at the end of the semi-final win, you’ll know just how much he cares about this football club. That’s one of the reasons why he’s the right man for the job. He genuinely cares and he’s passionate about everything: the club, the city, and the fans. The guy breathes Liverpool and most importantly knows his football.Trust King Kenny!
