Kevin Phillips, Lee Bowyer Join Blackpool and Ipswich Respectively

Tempers flare between Birmingham City's Lee Bowyer, left, and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Karl Henry during the English Premier League soccer match at St Andrews, Birmingham, England, Sunday May 1, 2011. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Former England and Birmingham City duo of Lee Bowyer and Kevin Phillips have joined Ipswich and Blackpool respectively on free transfers.

Former Newcastle stalwart Bowyer was instrumental for Birmingham City last season, scoring vital goals such as the winner against Chelsea. Following their relegation, he was part of the mass clear out at the club. Bowyer,34, has told Ipswich Town’s website that this is the right club for him and has claimed he targets promotion back to the Premier League with manager Paul Jewell.

Meanwhile, 37 year old Striker Kevin Phillips has joined Blackpool on a one year contract. In 99-00 season, he scored 30 goals and won the Premiership Golden Boot and European Golden Boot, being the only Englishman to win that. He has earned 8 England caps but has failed to score for England.

He joins Blackpool as DJ Campbell is poised to make a £1.5m move back to the Premier League.
