Jurgen Klopp will not be selling first-team players come January

With clubs like West Ham swooping around like vultures, rumours linking Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge with a move away from Anfield in the tabloids are a common sight. Transfer news like these sell like hot cakes. With the Englishman having made his displeasure clear after getting a start in just 5 out of 11 appearances this season, such reports have gained more and more prominence over the days.

However, Jurgen Klopp was extremely clear about his stance in a press conference. He expressed his reluctance towards permitting the exit of a first team player crystal clear, “The funny thing is your colleagues created stories that aren’t stories, then you ask me when there is no story!”

“There is no thought to sell any player in the first-team squad, actually. I don’t think it would make sense. Unfortunately Daniel is not in training until now, that’s the thing I’m more concerned about than any transfer rumours. I’m prepared for all the things you can ask in January,” the German added.

Jurgen Klopp, who is usually extremely media friendly, expressed his frustration at the questions being asked with his irritated tone making his displeasure apparent.

He surely has every right to be impatient considering the impracticality of the situation. Daniel Sturridge is a key member of the squad whose game-time was curtailed because of Roberto Firmino’s sublime performances this season. With Philippe Coutinho on the left and Sadio Mane on the right , Liverpool were able to deliver consistent performances which further reduced Sturridge’s opportunities.

However, in the event of Coutinho’s injury, Sturridge could be entrusted with the responsibility of delivering the goods for Klopp. Although the latter will miss out after being sidelined with a calf injury, there is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp has got several plans outlined aimed at getting the best out of his injury-prone striker.

With Liverpool fighting it out for Domestic and League Cup glory in the absence of European football, Daniel Sturridge will surely get an opportunity to prove that he is worth his salt.

The Reds are currently third in the Premier League after they succumbed to a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth. Klopp’s men lie four points off league-leaders Chelsea and heading into the festive season, Klopp will be hoping his side can find some of their early season form.
