La Liga team of the week – Game Week Six

Week six has come and gone and the biggest news was the flurry of controversial refereeing decisions made by Belgian-born La liga referee, César Muñiz Fernández in the game involving Elche and Real Madrid at the Martínez Valero. Barcelona and Atleti keep their 100 percent record while Espanyol record their first loss of the season. For us at La liga Blog, it’s time to once again reward the top performers of the Matchday. Don’t fret guys, Fernandez missed out!

In goal this Match week, we lean towards Valencia’s goalkeeper, Diego Alves. The Brazilian was reliable, making a number of saves (4) in his sides 1-0 win at Granada. Alves made sure Valencia remained in the tie up until late into added-on time when his countryman Jonas grabbed the winning goal. Alves edges out Valladolid goalkeeper, Diego Marino and Real Betis’s Guillermo Sara.

At right-back is one of the goal scoring defenders of Week 6. Getafe’s Alvaro Aroyo scored a crucial second to take the game beyond the grasps of Celta Vigo, as Getafe settled for a 2-0 victory. His team mate and partner in crime, Lisandro Lopez was at the centre of everything good for Getafe, delivering a Man of the Match performance. From tackles to shots, and crucial passes, the 24-year old was a big influence as Getafe dusted themselves down after their disappointing 4-1 loss to Real Madrid at the weekend.

The second half of our 4-man defence is made up of 2 players from the same club. Athletic Bilbao duo of Carlos Gurpegi and Mikel San Jose played key roles in defence as the Basque team came from behind to seal all three points at the new San Mames. Gurpegi had a game high (joint) 6 tackles as he was always willing to put himself in the way of Real Betis players time and again. San Jose by the way continues his superb early season form, getting the winning goal against a much spirited Real Betis side.

Our Week 6 Team three-man midfield is anchored by Barcelona stalwart, Sergio Busquets. The Spanish International exuded control and calmness as usual as he made his return to the Barcelona Strating XI, bossing proceedings in midfield against Real Sociedad. The Barcelona-born midfielder boasted a 93 percent pass accuracy, and got a rare goal through a strike from outside the area. Joining the Barcelona man to take care of creative duties are Sevilla’s Ivan Rakitic and Villareal’s Cani.

Rakitic was a handful for Rayo Vallecano as he sinked them, scoring two set pieces; a penalty and a freekick. Cani also produced some super football for Villareal in their 2-0 win over Espanyol in what was a very close match. His two assists, was just enough to give them the goals they needed.

Our forward line is blessed with the three top scorers in the league and the most deadly as well. On the Right-wing, the world’s best player, Lionel Messi was in near perfect form as he tore Real Sociedad apart time after time. The little Argentine got just a goal, an assist, and was even substituted.

But that was just enough to wreck La Real and pile some pressure on Arrasate. The Portuguese attacker wins the left wing role by virtue of his two goals against Elche.

The story of the night clearly was the controversial and somewhat questionable decisions by Referee Cesar Muniz Fernandez, but Ronaldo was on hand to bail his faltering Real Madrid side with a freekick, and a late penalty. Completing the team of Match Week 6 is another 2 goal hero, Diego Costa. Despite not being included in the latest Brazil squad to play in two friendly games in the next few weeks, Atleti’s Diego Costa has done just enough against Osasuna for us to include him in our team.
