Bayern Munich is on the verge of making another transfer coup. The Bundesliga giants are tipped to sign Leon Goretzka on a pre-contract agreement this January.

The midfield sensation of FC Schalke 04 has been one of the most improved German youngsters over the past 12 months. His stunning performances have attracted a lot of interest from various clubs this season with Bayern, Liverpool, and Juventus all eager to sign the German international.

According to Sport Bild however, the Bavarians are huge favourites to secure the signing of the highly talented German midfielder, which could be an astonishing move for the current Bundesliga champions.

The 22-year-old is already tipped as one of the most highly talented midfielders in European football at the moment and could potentially make a huge impact in the upcoming FIFA World Cup this year.

There are a lot of benefits in signing a player like Leon Goretzka. One of them is the simple fact that the Schalke midfielder will be an exciting future prospect as well as improve the overall quality of the team. At the age of just 22, Goretzka has immense potential to emerge as one of the best midfielders in Germany.

In addition, the Bavarians will also have an amazing replacement for Arturo Vidal, who has been highly linked with a move out of Bavaria. Although both the midfielders are not exactly comparable to one another, at 30, the Chilean is already into the final phase of his career. This implies that Goretzka may be an indirect upgrade on the former Juventus midfielder. Furthermore, it's his style of play which suits Bayern Munich's current tactical ethos perfectly.

Ever since the appointment of Louis van Gaal in 2009, the Die Roten have evolved into a possession-based team. While the system had its downfall during the Jupp Heynckes era, it was successfully reinstated by Pep Guardiola once again. In fact, Heynckes himself, in his fourth stint with the club, has also embraced the idea of having the bulk of the possession.

Leon Goretzka has looked very comfortable in holding possession, which was evident in his impressive performances for the German national team in the FIFA Confederations Cup last year in Russia.

He's blessed with a series of traits which can help Bayern in every aspect. His strong passing coupled with decent distribution is something which is vital, especially in the case of Bayern's style of play.

However, it's his maturity and tactical nous which makes him a unique component in the midfield. Under the managerial stints of Markus Weinzierl last season and current boss Domenico Tedesco, the 22-year-old has played in a variety of roles.

Under Weinzeirl, the midfielder was used as a no. 6, where his imposing figure and defensive abilities helped Schalke redeem possession in the middle of the pitch. Then came Domenico Tedesco, who transformed Goretzka into more of a midfield all-rounder.

He can contribute both offensively and defensively. Despite being generally termed as a defensive midfielder, Goretzka also has the ability to dictate the play with his impressive ball-playing qualities. His tall figure is often intimidating for the opposing players, thus showing his value in the middle third.

Blessed with tons of qualities perfect for a midfielder, Goretzka is one of the few young players who can prove to be the future of FC Bayern. Not only does he have the maturity at such a young age but also the temperament to emerge as a real leader in the centre of the pitch. He has the potential to be an instant hit with the Bavarians should he make the star-spangling move to the Allianz Arena next summer.
