Player ratings for RB Leipzig against Liverpool

Peter Gulacsi - 7/10

It was an outstanding performance from the Leipzig shot-stopper. Peter Gulacsi made two key saves to keep his side in the game before Liverpool broke the deadlock.

Nordi Mukiele - 6/10

The Frenchman played on the right side of Leipzig’s back-three and stood his ground against the Liverpool attack on occasions. However, Nordi Mukiele struggled to play out from behind, as he occasionally gave the ball away with wayward passes.

Dayot Upamecano - 6.5/10

The Frenchman was not his usual dominating self. While Dayot Upamecano did well in winning several aerial duels and surging forward against Liverpool, his night was marred with several misplaced passes and missed tackles.

Lukas Klostermann - 7/10

Lucas Klostermann put in a solid shift down the left side of Leipzig’s three-man defence. He ended the game with six clearances and four interceptions and almost kept Liverpool's Mohamed Salah quiet all game.

Tyler Adams - 6.5/10

The American international occasionally served as an outlet on the right side for Leipzig. However, Tyler Adams had little impact on the game, as he was pegged back in an attempt to rebuff Liverpool’s constant wave of attacks.

Kevin Kampl - 6/10

The German defensive midfielder did well in covering ground for his side, distributing the ball for his teammates and breaking Liverpool's attack on a few occasions. Surprisingly, Kevin Kampl was hooked off at the half-time break.

Marcel Sabitzer - 6/10

It was a decent outing from the Leipzig captain against Liverpool. While Marcel Sabitzer initially looked out of pace, making mistimed challenges and wayward passes, he grew into it as the game wore on. He finished with two interceptions and three tackles and went about his defensive duties diligently.

Christopher Nkunku - 6.5/10

Christopher Nkunku was a constant threat to Liverpool down the left flank. Playing as a wing-back, Nkunku provided an excellent outlet for Leipzig in attack, setting forward to whip in hopeful crosses into the Liverpool penalty area.

Dani Olmo - 6.5/10

Dani Olmo was Leipzig’s most threatening player in attack in the first half. He forced a save from Liverpool goalkeeper Alison early in the game but faded as the game wore on. However, Olmo was impressive in the air, winning all his aerial duels attempted before he was replaced by Amadou Haidara in the 72nd minute.

Emil Forsberg - 5/10

It was a disappointing performance from the Leipzig attacker. Emil Forsberg posed no threat to the Liverpool defence as he was toothless in the final third. He also had no telling contribution at the other end of the pitch as well. Forsberg was hooked off at the hour-mark.

Yussuf Poulsen - 6.5/10

It was a routine high-energy performance from the Denmark international. Yussuf Poulsen ran relentlessly as he tried to press the Liverpool defence but was unable to get any attempt on goal before he was substituted in the 60th minute.

Player ratings of Leipzig substitutes

Alexander Sorloth - 6.5/10

Alexander Sorloth came closest to scoring for Leipzig when he directed his header onto the Liverpool crossbar.

Justin Kluivert - 6.5/10

Justin Kluivert replaced Emil Forsberg and injected fresh life down the left for Leipzig, looking to make something happen in attack.

Hwang Hee-chan - 6/10

Hwang Hee-chan struggled to make an impact after coming on, seeing an effort go well off target.

Amadou Haidara -5/10

Amadou Haidara was subbed in for Dani Olmo with 18 minutes on the clock. But the game soon became beyond reach, as Liverpool grabbed a second goal minutes after his introduction.
