Future Liverpool star?

Lemar burst into prominence in the 2016/17 season where Monaco incredibly won the Ligue 1 title and made it to the Champions League semi-finals. While the likes of Mbappe ran away with all the plaudits, Lemar also played a crucial role and was one of the best players in that impressive Monaco side.

This season as well, the versatile French midfielder has shown glimpses of his brilliance. Although he has scored only 2 goals in the French league so far, he has assisted 7 and is always at the forefront of Monaco's attacking play.

The heart of the matter

Liverpool have been extremely impressive this season, with the forward trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino being in particularly good goalscoring form. However, it is still believed that the Reds are one or two quality signings away from genuinely challenging for the Premier League title next season.

With Naby Keita set to arrive in the summer, Lemar's potential signing could transform Liverpool from a very good side to a great one.

Rumour rating/probability

7/10

Liverpool have long been linked with a move for Lemar and with his contract running out in two years, the Ligue 1 side might be looking to sell him in the summer. Also, with Liverpool having the funds from Coutinho's sale still to spend, the 22-year-old could well be heading to Anfield next season.

Author's side

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side have put in some brilliant performances this season, but they still lack the squad depth and quality to genuinely challenge for a Premier League title.

With a couple of marquee signings like Lemar and Keita, the Reds might well be a force to reckon with next season and the Liverpool board should do everything in their power to get this deal across the line as soon as possible.
