Scrapping the ‘Top 3 Transfer Rumours of the Week’ column this week quite simply because we didn’t appoint a manager until yesterday, but I’ll tell you all about the latest transfer gossip anyways.
Joe Cole Lifeline At Anfield…
Well, if The Daily Star is to be believed, Joe Cole does indeed have work left to be done at Anfield. As they say, Rodgers has worked with Joe Cole in the past as the reserve coach of Chelsea FC, so Rodgers might just have a place in his plans for the ex-English international.
The winger also had a successful loan spell with French outfit Lille last term, so that is likely to weigh quite heavily in his favour, hopefully getting a couple of starts next season.
… and Rodgers Could Actually Do Another Hodgson
If sources are to believe, Rodgers is going to raid Swansea for his old players. The question now will be whether those players will just be able to make the cut with Liverpool fans. After all, it must be remembered how Hodgson signed Paul Konchesky and Christian Poulsen on the basis that he had worked with them in the past.
But I have utmost confidence in our new manager, and given the success of Swansea in their debut season, I’m confident that Rodgers will do a good job with the signings this summer. Three names in the frame for the move to Merseyside include midfielder Joe Allen, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Scott Sinclair and defender Ashley Williams.
The Mirror reckon that Sigurdsson, Sinclair and Williams are all on the agenda, whilst it is The Daily Mail who claim the Merseysiders’ interest in Joe Allen, although interest in Allen would hardly be surprising given the success of his 2011/12 campaign with Swansea.
I would also be interested to see what Sigurdsson can do should he make the move. A classy midfielder who really made his mark in his short loan spell with Swansea from Hoffenheim in the January transfer window, so really looking forward to see that happening.
