What's the story?

Liverpool's legendary striker Robbie Fowler thinks that Mohamed Salah is becoming selfish in search of goals, and considers that to be a positive. Fowler also believes the Egyptian will shine irrespective of the role given to him.

In case you didn't know...

Liverpool are on the route to win their first Premier League title since its inception in 1992. They currently stand second in the league and are on level terms with the leaders Manchester City at 62 points, but they have a game in hand.

Egyptian forward Mohammed Salah joined Liverpool from Roma and has been one of the most influential players for the Reds. Salah is leading the goal-scoring charts in the Premier League with 16 goals from 25 games.

Salah will play a pivotal role in Liverpool's bid to win the Premier League.

The heart of the matter

"His record’s brilliant, it really is. When you watch him play you just know that you’re more or less guaranteed to get chances and obviously if he keeps getting chances he’s going to continue to score goals," Fowler told the Reds' official website.

Fowler also claimed that Salah has become selfish in search of more goals but stressed on how that is a positive thing.

"He’s not unbelievably greedy or unbelievably selfish so I wouldn’t read much into it in that way, but I think his game has changed and he does look a little bit focused or a little bit more direct in terms of wanting to score goals and to be a great goalscorer. I think at times you do need to have a little bit of selfishness about you and he has got that," Fowler said.

"I’m not saying that’s a good or a bad thing, but if you look at all the great strikers of yesteryear - whether they played for Liverpool or not - they’ve always had that little bit of greed in them, so it’s good for him and it’s certainly good for us," he added.

What's next?

Liverpool will face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday and will look to gain a three-point lead before Manchester City face Chelsea on Sunday.

They need to keep winning if they want to stay on course for their maiden Premier League title, but if Salah continues to 'selfishly' rack up the goals, the Reds would be in prime position to do exactly that.
