Liverpool to rob Swansea of defender Ashley Williams

Liverpool v Swansea City - Premier League

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is keen on buying Swansea centre-half Ashley Williams this summer.

The Welshman, known to Rodgers from his managing time at the Liberty Stadium, has been very impressive in the last two Premier League seasons, and is very close to leading Swansea to their first Capital One Cup Trophy.

Liverpool aren’t in any immediate need of a defender, with their obvious strength in the position, but with the doubtful futures of Martin Skrtel and the helpless Sebastian Coates, they are possibly going to sign another.

Considering his plans to challenge for the Champion League places in the forthcoming year, Rodgers will have to add better players, despite expenses of over £50 million in signing players like Joe Allen, Fabio Borini and Daniel Sturridge, and more importantly, fill the vacancy for leadership quality that will be created with the absence of Carragher. Current regular for Wales, Williams, despite not having any European football experience, is an efficient candidate for filling such a vacancy.

Despite his claims to avoid buying from his old club for at least another 12 months, Rodgers is back to square one after controversially buying off Allen last summer.
