Liverpool transfer rumour: Reds planning swoop for Barcelona's Arda Turan

Turan signed for Barcelona from Atletico Madrid in 2015

Arda Turan could be the next star joining Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool according to Spanish outlet Don Balor. The 29-year-old Turkish international joined Barcelona from Atletico Madrid in 2015 but hasn’t been able to cement his place in the starting XI, which is one reason why the Reds are after him.

This move is seen as a counter to the rumours linking Barcelona to Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian has been a key player in Liverpool’s title charge this season and the Catalan club have made Coutinho their number one target in the upcoming transfer windows.

Liverpool are in need of an attacker as stated by their manager, especially during the months of January and February. Sadio Mane, another star for the Reds in this campaign, will be away on African Cup of Nations duty and the long term injury to Danny Ings would leave the Premier League club short of attackers.

Turan could be the perfect signing for the Reds

The former Atletico Madrid attacker has found it tough to break into the Barcelona starting XI. It isn’t a surprise, to be honest, as dislodging Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez or Neymar would be hard for any player in the world.

Turan has made eight La Liga appearances for the Catalan side this season and has scored two goals and provided three assists. The 29-year-old might not fit the scheme of signing young players but his energy and tenaciousness would certainly aide in well with the playing style of the Merseyside club.

His ability to play in a range of positions would be an attractive proposition for Klopp and Turan could be a cheaper solution compared to some of the other attackers Liverpool have been linked with.

Turan had also stated that his dream is to play for Liverpool. Prior to joining Atletico, the Turkish international was quoted by the Express as saying, "I want to play in major leagues and my dream team is Liverpool.”

The Barcelona man also added revealed why he supports the Reds. "As I always mention, Liverpool attracts me because of their tradition.”

Turan isn’t as quick as Sadio Mane or Philippe Coutinho; he certainly can do a great job at Liverpool. One big issue which could be a deal breaker is the fact that he would not be a regular starter for the Merseyside club since the trio of Coutinho, Mane and Roberto Firmino have been on fire, which would be a similar situation for the Turk as in Barcelona.
