After becoming the only player to score in 4 editions of the tournament and go level with all-time top-scorer Michel Platini on 9 goals apiece, an injured Ronaldo tearfully hobbled off the pitch in the first half of the Euro 2016 final against France in Paris.

Despite the absence of their inspirational talisman on the field, Eder's extra time strike helped Portugal seal a 1-0 win to lift their first title at the European Championships. It marked Ronaldo's first success at the tournament, following defeat in the 2004 final on home soil against Greece.
