Louis van Gaal apologizes for mistakes he made in the Manchester derby

Louis van Gaal claims he made a blunder in the match against Manchester City

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal claimed that he made a mistake in the match against Manchester City during the weekend. United ended City's run of four successive derby wins with an outstanding 4-2 victory.

Although City started the game on a good foot with a goal from Sergio Aguero, which was assisted by David Silva, it wasn’t long before Ashley Young equalized and the game turned United’s way. Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata, and Chris Smalling were the others to score for the home side, while Aguero contributed one more goal for City to make the final score 4-2. The win against Manchester City solidified United’s position in the top four.

Even though Van Gaal’s team won the match, he said he made a serious mistake when he used up all his three substitutes before Michael Carrick went down with an injury late in the match.

“At the end, Michael Carrick needed to be changed, but I could not substitute him,” he said.

“He was very wise to step out of the game with my permission. I hope he is not injured. Of course, the result [at the time] is fantastic, 4-1, but then I had to bring Carrick off, it was a little bit stupid of me.

“I wanted to give all of my players minutes because they have been working so hard. Wayne [Rooney] had to play as a holding midfielder, and it was difficult. The second half was much better than the first and I think that, until the moment Michael went off, we were fantastic.”

Van Gaal apologizes to his wife’s hairdresser

Van Gaal jokingly apologized to his wife’s hairdresser, Dawn, who was a City fan, after United defeated City. He apologized to Dawn after the match on Sunday but insisted that his team won because they were the better side.

He said, “My wife's hairdresser is a Manchester City fan, so there is a lot of discussion between these two women.”

“I'm sorry for you Dawn, but we have to win and we were the better team today,” the United manager told MUTV.

Van Gaal can only hope that Dawn doesn’t take revenge by messing around with his wife’s hair the next time she visits the salon.
