Liverpool’s Luis Suarez has been banned for 10 matches by an FA Disciplinary Body.

The FA has handed Liverpool striker Luis Suarez a 10-match ban for his bite on Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, after the disciplinary board assigned found Luiz Suarez guilty of ‘violent conduct’.

The event took place during the 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Chelsea on Sunday. At the time, referee Kevin Friend did not notice the incident, but with the help of the 24 cameras stationed at the stadium, it was obvious that the Uruguayan had indeed attempted to bite Ivanovic. This is not the first time in Suarez’s career that he has been banned for biting an opponent, as a similar event unfolded when he was at Dutch side Ajax.

Suarez was second in the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot, but his ban is likely to pave the way for Manchester United striker Robin van Persie to claim the award for the second season running.

LFC managing director Ian Ayre expressed his disappointment at the length of the ban, saying: “Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today’s Independent Regulatory Commission decision.

“We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment.”

Suarez has until midday on Friday to appeal the suspension.
