Lyon striker Bafétimbi Gomis on the verge of being signed by Newcastle

France Training Session

Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis is on the verge of being signed by Newcastle Football Club.

The French footballer may end up being the first signing for Newcastle this season. Jean-Michel Aulas who is the president of Lyon has mentioned that the deal which was initially placed at £7m may be increased to £8.7m and has been agreed upon for Gomis.

The only thing that remains to be resolved is the agents fees. With a large number of middlemen involved, agreeing upon all of their amounts seems to have been more of a problem than was initially anticipated. However this may be resolved in the next 48 hours reported the Guardian.

“We accepted Newcastle’s proposal,” Aulas said. “The agreement is now linked to the acceptance of agents’ fees. I understand that the problem is in the amount and manner of payment of commissions.

“There are several people involved in the operation, which complicates the negotiations. But I am hopeful that things will be resolved within 24 or 48 hours.”

Bafetimbi Gomis is quite chuffed about his move to Newcastle as he is already friends with some of the other French players at St James’ Park. His personal terms are also said to be accepted, and pose no issues for him or the club.

Gomis has had a good season in the Ligue 1 last year, scoring 16 goals for Lyon and was also being pursued by Marseille and Fulham. Lyon were adamant initially about getting at least £8.6m for Gomis, but with only one year left in the contract they were forced to get to the negotiating table.
