Lyon host Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on Sunday

Lyon will entertain Strasbourg at Parc Olympique Lyonnais in their final Ligue 1 match of the 2023-24 season on Sunday. The hosts cannot qualify directly for Europe through Ligue 1 as they will finish the season behind fifth-placed Nice, who have a four-point lead.

Nonetheless, they play in the Coupe de France final later this month and a win in that match will ensure their place in the UEFA Europa League group stage. They will have to defeat 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The hosts extended their winning streak to three games last week with a 1-0 away triumph over Clermont Foot. Orel Mangala scored the only goal of the match in the 53rd minute as Lyon kept their first clean sheet in the league since March.

The visitors returned to winning ways after three games last week, as late goals from Emanuel Emegha and Andrey Santos helped them register a comeback 2-1 home win over Metz.

Lyon vs Strasbourg Head-to-Head

The two teams have locked horns 100 times in all competitions thus far. The hosts have the upper hand in these meetings, with 50 wins. The visitors have 28 wins to their name and 22 games have ended in draws.

Strasbourg registered a 2-1 home win in the Ligue 1 campaign opener but Lyon avenged that loss in the Coupe de France quarterfinal in February.

Lyon vs Strasbourg Prediction

Les Gones have suffered just one loss in their last 10 games in all competitions, recording eight wins. They are unbeaten in their last four home games, recording three wins on the trot, and are strong favorites.

Les Bleu et Blanc returned to winning ways after three games last week and will look to build on that form. They are winless in their last three away games in Ligue 1, failing to score twice, and might struggle here.

The two teams have been evenly matched in their last five meetings, with two wins each and one game ending in a draw. Nonetheless, considering Lyon's current form and home record, they are expected to record a comfortable win.

Prediction: Lyon 3-1 Strasbourg
