Premier League transfer news: Mahrez hands in transfer request, Blind wanted by Roma, and more - 31 January 2018

Leicester City v Watford - Premier League
Mahrez has reportedly handed in a transfer request

It's deadline day of the 2018 January transfer window which means there is still a chance for football teams to make last minute deals to help improve their squad for the remainder of the season.

Here is a round-up of all the important deadline day rumours from the Premier League.

#5 Leicester and Manchester City

Mahrez's days at the Foxes look to be limited

What a last-minute business this could be for Premier League leaders Manchester City!

With the Cityzens flying in the Premier League and still have the chance to do the quadruple, manager Pep Guardiola is still strengthening his squad.

Tuesday saw City complete the signing of French defender Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao for a club record fee of £57 million.

But Tuesday also brought the news that Leicester's Riyad Mahrez had handed in a transfer request. It certainly is a very last minute choice made by the Algerian but is now favourite to be City's next signing and before the end of this current transfer window.

According to The Star, the Foxes have told Man City that they would have to cough up £70 million if they want to bring in Mahrez before deadline day closes. This interest from Guardiola has come after Leroy Sane will be sidelined for the next two months.

#4 Manchester United

Manchester United v SL Benfica - UEFA Champions League
Blind has fallen down the pecking order at United

With Luke Shaw and Ashley Young being called before Daley Blind at the left-back role, the Dutch international is finding it very difficult to get any game time this season. Blind's second position choice is at centre-back but Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, and Victor Lindelof have got that covered.

But today could be a new era for the 27-year-old as reports from the Mirror suggest Italian club AS Roma are making enquiries for the out of favour defender.

It is believed Blind will be allowed to leave Old Trafford as long as the valuation is met between both clubs.

Update: Manchester United deny Blind Roma switch

#3 Everton

Everton v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Klassen might be off to Italy

Davy Klaassen only joined Everton last summer as one of many transfers to Goodison Park when Ronald Koeman was in charge.

The Liverpool Echo has reported that Napoli have opened talks with Everton over a possibility taking the midfielder to Italy.

But The Sun, however, suggests that Napoli are not the only Italian club interested in the 24-year-old as rivals Inter Milan are also looking into him.

It has been a rather miserable short spell for the Dutchman after joining the blues from Ajax for £23.4 million. Klaassen has only made 13 appearances and was last seen on the pitch in a Europa League match against Apollon Limassol at the beginning of December.

#2 Liverpool

Tranmere Rovers v Liverpool - Pre Season Friendly
Markovic to Wolfsburg?

It looks as though Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool will not be bringing in any more players before the transfer window shuts after bringing in Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.

But the reds may be letting go of one of their players as Lazar Markovic could be out of Anfield in just a few hours time.

The Mail Online reported on Monday that German club Wolfsburg has joined the race with Swansea City to capture the Serbian's signature.

Markovic has been sent out on loan three times since becoming a Liverpool player in 2014. In the last four years, he has only ever made 19 appearances and finding the net twice for the reds. It's fair to say Klopp will not be missing Markovic if he is to leave on deadline day.

#1 Swansea City

AFC Bournemouth v West Ham United - Premier League
Could we see Andre Ayew being reunited with his brother at Swansea?

After defeating Arsenal 3-1 on Tuesday night, there is even more good news for the Swansea fans out there!

Wales Online has reported that Swansea City have held talks with West Ham United over a possible Liberty Stadium return for Andre Ayew.

Ayew left Swansea for West Ham in the summer of 2016 and has so far made 43 appearances but has only scored nine times.

If this transfer was to happen we would be seeing Andre playing alongside his brother Jordan Ayew in their attempts to keep Swansea safe from relegation.

There may be a catch however for the South Wales team as the hammers are open to a swap deal for Ki Sung-yueng to come to the London Stadium.
