Liverpool's hope of winning lie with Luis Suarez

Liverpool’s hope of winning lies with Luis Suarez

Brendan Rodgers will take Liverpool to the Etihad today to play the most highly anticipated game of the festive period. Manchester City and Liverpool have gone on a free scoring run this season and are without doubt the most feared teams in the Premier League.

Both the titans have recently had massive victories with City demolishing Arsenal 6-3 and beating Fulham 4-2 while Liverpool blanked Tottenham 5-0 and overcame Cardiff 3-1. The match is also unique for being a clash between the two highest scoring sides this term. From 2012 to 2013 the teams managed to best each other just once and have drawn every game since then, the last being a 2-2 draw in February this year.

Both the teams have some key players injured with skipper Steven Gerrard, Jose Enrique and Daniel Sturridge out for Liverpool and Sergio Aguero, Nastasic, Richards, Jovetic and Zabaleta out for Manchester City.

Daniel Sturridge had managed to fire 8 goals for Liverpool and Aguero blasted 13 goals for City before being injured. The defense of both teams are also weakened with City struggling defensively without Serbian center back Nastasic.

Nobody can mention Liverpool without taking the name of their prolific striker Luis Suarez. The Uruguay has been on fire this season hitting 10 goals in his last 4 games taking his tally up to 19 this season. Manchester City’s defenders will have a tough time handling the slippery striker who can capitalize on any error made, no matter how small it may be.

The 26-year-old will almost certainly get on the score sheet in today’s game. If he manages to score today he’ll take his tally up to an astounding 20 goals!! Joe Hart couldn’t have picked a worse day to retain his place as Manchester City’s goalkeeper.

Manchester City will surely miss the talented Sergio Aguero but have their own trump card in the form of Yaya Toure. The incredible Ivorian has 11 goals to his name this season, with four of them coming from free kicks. Toure is another player who can take advantage of errors committed by the opposition, which could clearly be seen in the game against Arsenal. The 30-year-old will surely be a marked man in today’s game but he is very good at breaking out of his shackles.

The Liverpool defense will also be tested today. Manchester City have won all of their home games by at least two goals but Liverpool are sure to do everything in their power to change that. The Reds backline is highly unpredictable but Rodgers may opt for the same four that faced Cardiff.

Manuel Pellegrini has brought his famous style of attacking football to Manchester City but Liverpool can play very defensively if they really want to. The Citizens are perfectly capable of scoring goals even without Aguero and will be a force to reckon with today. Both the teams are sure to inflict some heavy punches on each other the term Boxing Day seems right for this incredible fixture.
